The Guilty Ones (DI Jackman & DS Evans #4) Reviews
I would like to thank Netgalley and Joffe Books for an advance copy of The Guilty Ones, the fourth novel to feature DI Rowan Jackman of Saltern-Le-Fen police.
Jackman's family life is torn apart when his sister-in-law, Sarah, commits suicide but is there more to it? Why would a happily married mother of two, whom she loved dearly, travel to London to drown herself? Further investigation shows that she's not the only one but what links them?
I thoroughly enjoyed The Guilty Ones which is a tense, ex ...more
DI Jackman and DS Evans - Book 4.
Jackman's sister-in-law Sarah, disappears to London and throws herself into the river. What drove her to do this? She was a woman with a seemingly happy home life and two beloved sons. Joy Ellis is a fantastic author and I look forward to every one of her books with eager anticipation - it's like a Christmas present any day of the year.
Detective Inspector Jackman's sister-in-law, Sarah, has committed suicide by jumping in the river. No-one knows why she did this when she has a wonderful husband and two young sons, but her suicide was captured on CCTV so it cannot be gainsaid.
Jackman is determined to find out why she did it but, when another supposed suicide victim is found, th ...more
A case turns real personal for DS Jackman. His brother's wife has committed suicide by throwing herself into the river. She leaves behind not only her husband, but 2 young sons as well.
When Jackman and Evans delve into Sarah's life, he's surprised to learn that there is no record of her at all until she married. It's like she never existed until her wedding day. So, the question is .... who was Sarah? Why would she kill herself?
And then more information comes to light. They discover a w ...more
This is the last book in this series, but it ended with an open ending, so I'm thinking there might be more books in this series - at least I am hoping. This is Detective Jackman's most difficult case to date and includes the mysterious death of his sister-in-law. Full of twists and turns, this is a crime mystery that kept me turning the pages. Set in the atmospheric Lincolnshire Fens, whose isolated villages hide many secrets.
Probably one of the darkest physiologic mysteries I've ever read.
Yes Jackman' s sister-in-law did commit suicide. But wasn't that a shadow of a man behind her. That brief glimpse on film leads Jackman in search of a killer, like they have never seen before. Yet out of this investigation comes the knowledge to hold and appreciate what you hold dear. A must-read for real mystery fans. Joy Ellis holds you spellbound.
This is the fourth book of Joy's I have read, and the second in the Jackman and Evans series.
Even though this is the fourth book in the series it is quite easy to jump into it without having read the previous three stories, although it obviously does help as bits of the story jump back and relate to the previous books.
The book starts off with DI Jackman's Sister-in-law committing suicide, which is totally against character leaving a husband and two sons heart broken. As he investigates he reali ...more
Another excellent chapter
Joy Ellis has done it again – the latest Jackman & Evans instalment is simply brilliant. This time we focus mainly on Rowan Jackman and his family who has been targeted by a sadistic and dangerous killer out to seek revenge. There is plenty of excitement and lots of surprises – especially towards the end. It’s one of those novels where you think you have the ending all worked out only to find that you are missing an important piece which the author has carefully hidd ...more
