Cast Long Shadows (Ghosts of the Shadow Market #2) Reviews
Cast Long Shadows is ten times better than Son of the Dawn holy crap I am crying. This particular novella informs us that Jem is looking for something that has some connection to Tessa and it also sheds light on Matthew Fairchild as a 15-year-old, very dramatic in character with a wholesome love for his father: a key theme explored in this short story.
From this novella we can perhaps infer that what happened to Charlotte, the secret Matthew holds, has a massive impact on his own position in ...more
I absolutely loved this story. I adore Matthew so much, and in some ways he reminds me a lot of both Will and Jace. The interaction between all of the characters is amazing, and I just loved seeing Henry and Charlotte again, how (view spoiler)[ he crawled toward Charlotte when she passed out, it was so beautiful, because Cassandra is always making us doubt how much the two really love each other, and than moments like this make me realise that that doubt is so unnecessary because I actually ...more
SO GOOD!!! These novellas are all INCREDIBLY PAINFUL, and I love it, and AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
I fell in love with Matthew. He was such a lovely character, and I loved seeing how he went from this sweet innocent child to someone who was so hurt (I know, I'm mean.) (Honestly that just sounds super wrong, and not really like what I'm even trying to say, but... You probably know what I mean...).
He was wonderful, and I hope we get to see more of him in future books.

I really love Matthew Fairchild. He has a very flamboyant and Magnus-esque kind of charisma, and such a buoyant personality that's it's difficult not to instantly fall in love with him. I was a particular fan of his deliberately long-winded and archaic turn of phrase, which made me grin and laugh out loud on more than one occasion. He's fab, and I think -- his narrative voice was intriguingly light-hearted whereas I think James perceives him as having a slightly darker tinge to his wit? That was ...more
I was anticipating this story because it featured my ray of sunshine, Matthew Fairchild. BUt I did NOT sign up to see him hurt.
You know, when Cassandra Clare said that The Last Hours would be sadder and more tragic than The Infernal Devices, and I didn’t believe that because, come on, nothing can be more anything than TID.
But I do now. I really, really do believe that.
Cassandra Clare's covers have never looked worse
I was NOT expecting that to be Matthew's sin. How to unread something? Put it back I don't want it.
I will protect this boy with my life. And I'm slightly more excited for TLH but not that much. Maybe the next novella will also help with that.
I do admit some of the characters I had no idea who they were because I don't know much about the TLH crew, especially the non-mains.
