Gabe and Elyse have never met. But they both have something to hide.Quiet, shy Elyse can't believe it when she's cast as the lead in her Portland high school's production of Romeo and Juliet. Her best friend, Brynn, is usually the star, and Elyse isn't sure she's up to the task. But when someone at rehearsals starts to catch her eye--someone she knows she absolutely shouldn't be with--she can't help but be pulled into the spotlight. Austin native Gabe is contemplating the unthinkable--breaking up with Sasha, his headstrong, popular girlfriend. She's not going to let him slip through her fingers, though, and when rumors start to circulate around school, he knows she has the power to change his life forever. Gabe and Elyse both make the mistake of falling for the wrong person, and falling hard. Told in parallel narratives, this twisty, shocking story shows how one bad choice can lead to a spiral of unforeseen consequences that not everyone will survive....

3.5 rounded up!
Listened to this on audio and the strong narration was definitely a big plus! Around 40%, I had a strong hunch as to what the twist might be and I was ultimately right, which ruined a bit of the “oh-em-gee moment” for me, but still a fun ride, nonetheless!
Holy moly! I finished the book in three hours. I meant to read a few pages before bed, but then I couldn’t stop reading. This was so damn good! I just thought I’d throw that out there. There’s a juicy forbidden romance plotline, betrayals, crazy ex-girlfriends, and pretty much spending the whole book wondering how everything comes together.
Oh boy, did it deliver! The twist was perfection that I didn’t even see it coming. It was so obvious but I still didn’t see it. I love a good mystery. I’m th ...more
I didn't hate it, in fact I wasn't sure I even liked it, but I kept reading. I was getting annoyed at the two different stories going on. One chapter about one and the next chapter about another and on and on that is the way it went through the entire book. Then, about six or so chapters to go I'm thumping myself on the head. I have no idea where my brain went or why I couldn't put the two stories together. I only hoped that it would all come together in the end. Boy am I slow today! I should ha ...more
I’m floored that this is a debut novel and impressed it’s a YA thriller. The plot is tense and sinister while the characters are realistic high school teens. School plays and pep rallies are balanced with controlling dating relationships and life-threatening situations.
All of the characters are three-dimensional, but one shows signs of the kind of person who can ruin your life. As their stories unfold, we learn some are hiding secrets and there’s danger lurking beneath.

I thoroughly enjoyed this sneak peek, the first 74 pages of LIES YOU NEVER TOLD ME, and would definitely be interested in reading the rest of it. I feel invested in the characters journeys and excited about what eventually happens as you delve deeper into the book. The more I read the harder it was to contemplate placing it down to do something boring but necessary. In the end, I decided that for my own good I would finish it all before attempting to focus on other things. Unless there is some s ...more
3.75-4 stars, so I'll just round up! More thoughts coming soon.
I feel a little conflicted over this even though this should be a relatively straightforward review.
There's something about this book that made me not like it as much as I could have, and it's not something concrete like writing style or a specific plot element. It's more like I have this uncomfortable feeling when I think about this, if that makes any sense.
I think this lies within Elyse and her relationship with her teacher, but parts with Sasha also make me uncomfortable. This is a ...more
