Campaign Widows Reviews
Once again, I’ve been a bad little reader and have fallen behind on my mini ARC book reviews… I promise I have many more coming, but today, I’m presenting a soon to be released jewel entitled Campaign Widows by Aimee Agresti.
Bad news first: in my opinion, there were too many characters (reminiscent of J.K. Rowling’s Casual Vacancy,) and it was a bit challenging to hone in on the novel’s central figure. Once some of the layers of this literary onion was unpeeled, however, an entertaining story b ...more
Thank you to NetGalley.com for the opportunity to read an Advanced Reader Copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
Political fluff!!! Even though American politics are a joke for either party these days, Campaign Widows is a light, romantic, funny romp through the election process through the eyes and minds of the people the people behind the candidates leave behind. Is it Primary Colors ? Thank heavens – no!
What I loved: Reagan was my favorite character out of the 5 “widows”. Her tak ...more
Campaign Widows is a fast paced, funny, drama filled look into the lives of the significant others left behind when their partners hit the campain trail. Behind the success or failure of a candidate, the loved ones at home supporting them and keeping normal life on track experience their own success and failures and bond in a way only they can. With cheating partners, new friendship bonds, a surprise pregnancy, and even a fire baton twirling First Lady candidate, the entertainment in this book d ...more
“This was a town that ran on power and proximity to power, not looks, not even money — though looks and money never hurt.”
In this hilarious book, accurately described as Sex and the City meets The West Wing, we meet a whole new cast ready to steal your heart. And maybe your votes.
Cady moved to DC to move her relationship with Jackson to the next level. When he proposes immediately, she finally feels that things are moving in the right direction. Even better, she somehow meets a group of friends, ...more
I received an ARC of Campaign Widows in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
This is the first of Aimee Agresti's novels which I have read, I am so glad I did!
Campaign Widows tells the story of exactly that - partners who are left home while their significant others are out on the campaign trails in various positions - whether press or working for candidates directly. These trailing partners form an unlikely bond and help each other through the daily tribulations of life. Add s ...more
I’m not one to get too wrapped up with politics and I rarely read books based on the subject, but I knew just from reading the blurb of this one that it would be a fun read and I was right! While politicians and a crazy presidential race is the basis for the plot, this is also a super light and juicy look at the women behind the men in office.
This follows a group of women who are all campaign widows who bond over their relationship and parenting woes. While I enjoyed them all Reagan was my favor ...more
A breezy try-to-guess-it-really-is novel about a group of women-and men- involved with a Presidential campaign. If there's a fault to this novel it's that there are too many characters. There's also virtually no back story on anyone, which works only because again- there are so many characters. Although Cady is ostensibly the star of this group, Madison is perhaps the most intriguing (if least realistic). There are some nice DC details (even if I could not figure out where Reagan was living that ...more
Every four years, presidential candidates and their staffers travel the country searching for funding and votes. Campaign Widows follows five people who have been left behind by their partners as they work for electoral victory. But don't kid yourself - these "widows" have lives of their own. There is Cady, a newcomer to DC who is producing a show that is sagging in the ratings, Reagan, a speechwriter who is now doing freelance work as the recent mother to two twin girls, Birdie, a media mogul a ...more
