1780. Albany, New York. As the war for American Independence carries on, two newlyweds are settling into their new adventure: marriage. But the honeymoon's over, and Alexander Hamilton and Eliza Schuyler are learning firsthand just how tricky wedded life can be. Alex is still General George Washington's right-hand man and his attention these days is nothing if not divided--much like the colonies' interests as the end of the Revolution draws near. Alex & Eliza's relationship is tested further by lingering jealousies and family drama....

Love & War (Alex & Eliza #2) Reviews
HOW DID I ONLY JUST FIND OUT THAT THIS EXISTED???????? I AM SERIOUSLY QUESTIONING MY LIFE RIGHT NOW HOT DAMN I KIND OF REALLY WANT TO READ THIS BECAUSE THE PREVIOUS ONE WAS SO CUTE AND AAAHH!!!!
The love story of Alexander and Eliza Hamilton continues in this second historical fiction novel. Covering 1981-1784, the novel picks up after the marriage with Eliza living at home with her family while Alex is off serving General Washington. Eliza cannot wait for the war to be over so that they can start a home and family. Meanwhile, Eliza experiences the birthing room as her own mother gives birth to her 15th child. Once the couple moves to Wall Street in New York City, Alex gets to work tryi ...more
I’d like to thank Penguin Teen for sending me an early copy and allowing me to participate in the official blog tour for this installment in the Alex & Eliza series.
First of all, I’ll reiterate again that I have not read the biography of Alexander Hamilton that is popular among readers and that has inspired the Hamilton musical. Yes, shame on me. So, this series is initially my first encounter with any kind of Alexander Hamilton history...if you don’t count whatever I learned in high school. ...more
This book was a very highly anticipated release for me this year, having loved the first book, Alex & Eliza so much. However upon reading about 100 pages of this book I felt completely bored! The story was following a very boring plot with all the potential moments of interest cut out. We don't see Alex and Eliza's relationship growing in-between the last book and the Battle of Yorktown, we don't see them have their children and we don't see their lives together grow other than moving to New ...more
This was so much fun! Other than a few info dumps & some repetition problems, I really enjoyed this story and would definitely recommend everyone picking it up when it comes out!!
More of a 3.5
Became entertaining at some parts, but I really wasn't feeling this. The dialogue throws me off, overly descriptive passages that I only skimmed, and what's historically such an interesting story that really had potential to be an interesting novel but kind of wasn't, I don't know. There were definitely some good parts and some likable characters, and I appreciated historical research and will likely read the next book, even though things get a lot worse before they get better...
Love & War was one of my most anticipated books to read this year. I adored the light hearted romance between Hamilton and Schuyler in it's predecessor, Alex & Eliza. Love & War follows Alex and Eliza after their marriage. Unfortunately for me, the book was too slow and boring. I ended up finishing this far later than I should have, falling asleep after reading (what felt like) a chapter of "Should we purchase this china?". Ultimately, it felt as though there wasn't much of a story a ...more
It was interesting to see Alex and Eliza as newlyweds navigating their new life together. This is less about the romance and more about their day to day lives as a married couple.
I very seldom read historical fiction about real people, but I think the author did a good job with Hamilton. He was quite the visionary. The author’s version of Eliza seemed to be a little too independent for the time period, but I still liked her as a character.
I didn’t know that the Hamiltons only lived a few doors ...more
