4.5. I loved this author/illustrator's earlier Exquisite Corpse, I'm a feminist, and I love reading about individuals who have often been ignored by history so how could I pass this one up? The fact that the book contains thumbnail sketches of 29 women who didn't let societal expectations keep them from doing what they wanted reinforced my own personal thoughts that social norms often must be challenged but that there are sometimes prices paid by those who challenge them and try to change them. ...more

I'm sure it's partially due to having a really tough week, but I got so emotional reading this book. There were several points throughout reading this today that I got choked up...I was so overwhelmed by the successes of these women, the obstacles they faced, their brains, their panache, their feistiness.
