Puddin' (Dumplin' #2) Reviews
Puddin' is the YA contemporary companion/sequel to Dumplin'.
Do you have to read Dumplin' in order to read this book? You don't have to read Dumplin' first however I would definitely recommend it. The narrators of Puddin' were supporting characters from the first book. And most of the characters from the first book appear in this book. I think that knowing Willowdean's story in Dumplin' will be extremely beneficial to understanding this story.
This book alternates narrators between Millie and Call ...more
I loved Dumplin’ so I knew I would be reading Puddin’ when I found out it was happening. And honestly, I was a little let down that it wasn’t the girl romance that cover and synopsis made me think it was.
Millie and Callie are okay MCs. Mille is ridiculously positive and Callie is ridiculously negative and while I liked them well enough, I didn’t feel connected to either of them. I didn’t care for the way Callie’s actions were addressed — she didn’t catch on to how her actions effected ...more
The thing I love about Julie Murphy books is that they are funny and full of heart. They're like a warm, fuzzy blanket and a mug of hot chocolate on a chilly day. Julie makes even the prickliest of characters sympathetic.
For those who loved Dumplin', this will be a delightful follow up. But if you didn't like Dumplin, Puddin isn't going to do it for you. These books are companions in the best sort of way, and for those who wanted to know what came next for Bo and Willowdean, there's something ex ...more
Julie Murphy has run away with my heart yet again. I swear this woman writes stories just for me (ok not really, but damn it feels like it).
She’s back, in Clover City, to tell Millie & Callie’s stories. One minute I’m laughing, then the next I’m counting my tears, right alongside some of the characters. It’s a full range of emotions that I’ve become so familiar with while reading a Julie Murphy novel. She knows how to write a story for which we can all see ourselves in. I loved this one. Oh ...more
Thanks to the publisher and Edelweiss for this review copy!
ABSOLUTELY PERFECT. Body-positive, fat-positive, kick-a** females and a whole lot of wit. This book is an amazing follow up to Dumplin' and I don't want this series to ever, ever end! This is required reading for every mother, every daughter, and everyone on earth who could use an affirmation or reminder that ALL BODIES ARE BEAUTIFUL. And all dreams are worthwhile and worth fighting for. And crushes are awesome and all love is fabulous a ...more
After reading (and loving) Dumplin', I was so excited to hear that there was a sequel in the works.
I'm happy to say that I really enjoyed this sequel. Maybe not as much as I enjoyed Dumplin', but close to it.
These characters were diverse, relatable, and mostly a good representation of what it's like to be a teenager. There may have been more dramatic moments that may not be particularly realistic, but for the most part, I thought it was was pretty realistic. The characters were also diverse in ...more
"If Neville Longbottom and Luna Lovegood had a baby, it'd be you."
"I'm not sure you mean that as a compliment, but I'm going to take that as one, because Luna and Neville forever."
As much as I've liked Murphy's previous books, I've never loved them. PUDDIN' is the closest to perfect I've had yet to have with this author. So I'm rounding this one up because while it wasn't an easy, or solid, four.. it wasn't too far off the mark.

Millie is honestly the girl I aspire to be. She is so sweet, and kind always looking for the best in people. The only differences between us, is she knows her dreams, loves her body, and she has a boyfriend.
One of my favorite Millie quotes (among many others) is:
"I believe the bad parts of us always live inside of us. It's just up to us to take those flaws and repurpose them for good."
I can honestly say I agree with that Millieism (lol). Everyone can change, you just need the power and support ...more
